Austrailian Open champ Kim Clijsters pulled herself out of Wimbledon today. The decision was a result of a foot injury she suffered yesterday. Needless to say, the Number Two ranked Belgian is disappointed. Here is more from the AP and espn.com.

"At this moment I feel frustrated that it has to happen now before one of my favorite tournaments," Clijsters said in a statement. "I've always enjoyed being a part of the Wimbledon atmosphere but I have no other choice now but to rest, recover and to not play tennis for a few weeks."

The two-week tournament starts Monday at the All England Club.

This is very disappointing news for tennis fans. Clijsters, a three-time U.S. Open winner, has never won Wimbledon. She's reached the semis on two occasions, but came up just short. With Serena Williams return, the women's bracket was top heavy, leaving many tennis fans excited with anticipation. The absence of Clijsters makes the top of the bracket a little lighter.

Clijsters plans on rehabbing the injury, with the hope that she can return late in the summer. Her main goal is to be ready for the U.S. Open.
