Louisiana Ragin' Cajun alum and former MLB All-Star Jonathan Lucroy has signed with the Chicago Cubs.

Lucroy, 33, was released by the L.A. Angels this week. Immediately upon his release, reports of the Cubs' interest in adding him made headlines in Chicago.

The timing makes sense for the Cubs.

They traded their catcher depth in Martin Maldonado to the Astros last week, then watched their star catcher Wilson Contreras suffer a Grade 2 strain to his hamstring that puts him on the shelf for a month or more.

Lucroy is an experienced veteran who fills a need for Chicago, who currently leads the NL Central by 2.5 games.

With the Angels this year, Lucroy batted .242, with a .310 OBP.
