
High-Speed Chase in South Louisiana Ends With Arrest of Abbeville Man
ABBEVILLE, La. (KPEL News) - A high-speed pursuit that stretched more than 20 miles and crossed parish lines ended with the arrest of a wanted suspect on the afternoon of Thursday, March 20, 2025.
High-Speed Chase Begins in Abbeville
According to the Abbeville Police Department, at approximately 1:39 p.m., officers attempted to stop Malcolm Ardoin, a 30-year-old Black male with an active warrant. Ardoin fled from officers after making a right turn onto North Lafitte Road in Abbeville, accelerating to speeds of 104 miles per hour in an attempt to evade capture.
Pursuit Crosses Into Lafayette Parish
The pursuit continued eastbound on LA 338 before Ardoin turned north at the LA 399 intersection, entering Lafayette Parish. Authorities say Ardoin continued to flee law enforcement, eventually making a U-turn to head south on Verot School Road, then turning west onto LA 92. At that point, Ardoin exited the vehicle and ran into a nearby cane field, ultimately jumping a fence and entering private property.

Abbeville officers received permission from the property owners to enter the residence, where they were able to successfully apprehend Ardoin. He was first brought to the Lafayette Parish Sheriff’s Office for a courtesy booking, before being transported to Abbeville Police Department, and finally booked into the Vermilion Parish Correctional Center.
Charges and Bond Details
Ardoin now faces a list of charges, including:
- Aggravated Flight from a Police Officer – Bond: $30,000
- Distribution/Possession with Intent to Distribute Schedule II Narcotics
- Possession of Marijuana
- Driving Without a License
- Illegal Window Tint
- Resisting an Officer – Combined Bond for these charges: $10,000
Chief Hardy expressed his gratitude to the Lafayette Parish Sheriff’s Office for their assistance in Ardoin’s arrest and helping bring the situation to a safe conclusion.
The case remains under investigation.
