I-10 at I-49 in Lafayette Re-Opened After Emergency Repairs Complete
Here's some great news for interstate travelers in Lafayette, Louisiana.
The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development has announced that all emergency work to repair the I-10 eastbound overpass girder at I-49 is now complete.
As a result, the following ramps/lanes are now re-opened:
- Interstate 10 eastbound overpass auxiliary lane (deceleration/acceleration lane)
- I-49 northbound exit ramp from I-10 (Exit 103B)
- Exit 1A to access I-10 eastbound
Why was I-10 eastbound at I-49 closed?
For the second time in a year, the I-10 eastbound overpass at I-49 was damaged.
This last time, the incident occurred in December 2024 when a truck hauling an oversized piece of equipment struck the deck bridge on I-10 resulting in damage to the exterior girder on the eastbound bridge deck.
The repairs to I-10 at I-49 in Lafayette were quick.
Work to repair the damaged overpass began in January 2025 and included removing the damaged girder utilizing a crane as well as installing the new girder.
The new bridge deck was also fabricated in place once the new girder was installed.
