(KMDL-FM) The Auburn Tigers are scheduled to face the LSU Tigers in a Southeastern Conference football game on Saturday morning. The two teams will meet in Auburn in what long-time SEC fans will know as the "Jefferson Pilot Game" Saturday morning at 11.

Those watching the game at home might not notice, but for fans in the stands there might be something a little different about the Auburn Band. This time, fans in the stands might actually be able to hear the sounds created by the 380-member marching unit. That's because the Auburn band will be "mic'd up" for the first time in school history.

Why Does the Auburn Band Need Microphones to be Heard?

This means the marching band will be amplified. There are some who see this as an unfair noise advantage for the Auburn Tigers to use over the LSU Tigers. It's not. The LSU Band has been mic'd up for years now. And you're probably wondering, why do you need to amplify something as loud as a marching band?

Well, in Auburn's case, it's because the band is weak. In the case of LSU, it's because LSU plays so many games in front of a nationwide TV audience that network officials appreciate the added sound that can be mixed into their game broadcasts. It adds to the ambience of the telecast when you can hear the band, don't you think?

The Auburn Band will probably wish they had their Mr. Microphones on November 14th when they go to Davis-Wade Stadium in Starkville. There is no way the Auburn Band will stand a chance against the Cowbells from Hell that inhabit Starkville on game day.

Why An Amplified Band Could Be Used Against LSU on Saturday

Now, for LSU, we aren't saying the football team will be as big of a pushover as the band; the Auburn Tigers are not a bad football team, and LSU has not been able to beat anyone away from Tiger Stadium this year. So, we will see how it all unfolds Saturday morning, and maybe this Saturday you can hear the Auburn Band.
