The person driving the truck, according to officials, displayed no signs of impairment. Toxicology tests are pending, and the driver did take a breath test at the scene, but no alcohol was present.

Gossen says they have several reminders for anyone who is walking on a roadway:

  • Always maintain a heightened level of awareness when walking on or near roadways.
  • It is a good idea to wear reflective clothing no matter the time of day you are walking.
  • Please remember to pay attention to the roadway and avoid any distractions while walking.
  • Make sure you do not walk close to roadways.
  • Traffic officials always remind walkers to walk against the flow of traffic.
  • Nearly 70 percent of pedestrian deaths happen at night.
