But, in the latest update from the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development, it would appear that we are nearing the completion of the project and barring bad weather or other unforeseen circumstances, it should be finished sometime shortly after the first of 2026.

In the $6.5 million project to realign and build a new section of LA 3227, DOTD says the next step in Phase 2 will begin this coming Monday, September 29, when Delacroix Street at its intersection with existing LA 3227 will be closed.

This closure is scheduled to be in place for two weeks, and is necessary to allow the contractor to tie in the new section of LA 3227 to Delacriox Street. Motorists will still be able to access Delacroix Street from LA 157.

Other work in the project includes drainage improvements, permanent roadway striping and signage, and the eventual relocation of the traffic signal to the newly created LA 3227/LA 157 intersection.

DOTD states the need for this project to aid the ongoing residential and economic growth in the expanding Haughton community by establishing essential infrastructure at this location.

Of course, inclement weather could extend, delay or alter in other ways the scheduled days for this work, but motorists will be advised if such alterations are necessary.

DOTD appreciates your patience and reminds you to please drive with caution through the construction site and be on the lookout for work crews and their equipment. Remember to leave plenty of room between you and the vehicle in front of you.

Area residents should exercise caution when driving, walking, or biking near an active construction zone.
