Who says your team has to win in order to be awarded the Cy Young?

Seattle Mariners righthander Felix Hernandez was named the American League Cy Young award winner today by the Baseball Writers Association of America.

The 24 year old Venezuelan finished only 13-12 but wasn't actually given a lot of run support.  Hernandez led the AL in ERA (2.27), led in innings pitched and was second in strikeouts.  He received 21 of the 28 first place votes.

Tampa Bays' David Price was second in the voting.  Yankees lefty C. C. Sabathia was third.

The 13 wins is the fewest for a starter ever to win the AL Award.

Roy Halladay of the Philadelphia Phillies won the NL Award yesterday.
