Dusty Baker Won’t Return As Manager Of The Cincinnati Reds

Dusty Baker will not be returning to the Cincinnati Reds, after eight seasons as the team's manager, according to the Associated Press.

The 64-year old Baker accumulated an overall record of 509-463 as the manager of the Reds, including a 90-72 record in 2013.

Despite finishing in third place in the National League Central this season, the Reds still qualified for the playoffs, earning a wild-card berth, before falling to the Pittsburgh Pirates, 6-2, on Tuesday night.

2013 was the third time that Baker guided the Reds to the playoffs, including three times over the last four years, while winning division titles in 2010 and 2012.

Baker took over as the manager in Cincinnati in 2008, going 74-88, before finishing 78-84 in 2009, 91-71 in 2010, 79-83 in 2011, 97-65 in 2012, and 90-72 in 2013.

The Reds never made it to the World Series under Baker, losing in the 2010 National League Division Series to the Philadelphia Phillies, and to the San Francisco Giants in the NLDS a year ago, before losing out in the wild-card game this year.

Prior to his tenure with the Reds, Baker managed the Giants, from 1993-2002, and the Chicago Cubs, from 2003-2006. His best years were in 1993, when the Giants won 103 games, and in 2002, when the Giants advanced to the World Series, before falling to the Angels.

In his 20 seasons as a manager, Baker compiled an overall record of 840-715, while winning Manager of the Year honors in 1993, 1997, and 2000.

As an MLB player from 1968-1986, Baker had 1,981 career hits, along with 242 home runs, and 1,013 RBI's with the Braves (1968-1975), Dodgers (1976-1983), Giants (1984), and A's (1985-1986).
