Dodgers’ Manager Calls Clemens Probe “A Waste”

Los Angeles Dodgers manager Don Mattingly competed against Roger Clemens early in the right-hander's career.  He also was the Yankees' bench coach during Clemens' first season in the Bronx.

And, after Clemens was acquitted on six federal counts of perjury and obstruction of justice, Mattingly calls the whole, five-year probe "a waste."

Mattingly says the government should have higher priorities than chasing after the likes of Clemens, Barry Bonds and Lance Armstrong.

He says improved technology in drug testing and increased penalties for violations have helped Major League Baseball begin to move out of the steroid era.  He said he believes the testing process "helps everybody," including the fans.
