Detroit Tigers Complete Sweep Of Yankees, Advance To World Series

The Detroit Tigers said "sweep dreams" to the New York Yankees in Game 4 of the ALCS Monday, dominating the Yanks by the score of 8-1. The Tigers return to the World Series as American League champions for the first time since 2006.

Leading the way on the mound for Detroit was Max Scherzer. The starting right hander struck out 10, taking his 2 hitter all the way into the sixth inning.

CC Sabathia was not in top form. The Tigers harassed the Yankee all-star pitcher for 11 hits and 6 runs in only 3.2 inning of work.

Triple Crown winner Miguel Cabrera hit his first homerun of the postseason on Thursday, knocking in a 2-run bomb off of Sabathia in fourth inning. Shortly after Miguel's homer, Jhonny Peralta hit a 2-run HR as well. With a large lead in the game and in the series, it was "lights out" from there on out for Motown.

The Tigers will await the winner of the NLCS between the St. Louis Cardinals and San Francisco Giants. Despite reaching one 7 seasons ago, Detroit has not won a World Series since 1984. Thursday's victory gave Detroit its 11th American League pennant.
