Cane Cutters one win away from Texas Collegiate League Title

The atmosphere out at Fabacher Field was electric last night for the final home game of the summer season last night, which housed the opening game to the Texas Collegiate League Championship Series. The Cutters would deliver and send their fans off on a high note with an exciting 2-1 victory over the Victoria Generals. Acadiana now leads the best of three game series 1-0 as the series shifts to Victoria for game two and if necessary game three.

The tone was set in this one for the Cutters via starting pitcher Miguel Reyes (Hutchinson Community College) who was named Powerade Player of the Game. He fired six no-hit frames before surrendering the lone Generals run to score in the seventh. Reyes struck out six batters throughout his seven innings as well. From there it was the local product from the Lafayette Ragin’ Cajuns, Jimmy Dobrash who took over on the mound for the final two innings to seal the victory.

For the Cane Cutters offensive output, Rhett McCall (Lamar University) was plated in the first inning on an RBI single from Kyle Bayles (Mississippi State). From there it was First baseman Nathan Gabryszwski who accounted for run number two in the second frame on an RBI single off the bat of Mason Corbett (Texas A&M).
