Brooks Koepka Holds Off Tiger Woods To Win PGA Championship
Even Tiger Woods career best final round score at a Major tournament couldn't hold off the impressive Brooks Koepka on Sunday in St. Louis.
Koepka captured his second Major Championship of the year (won the U.S. Open in June), and third of his career.
The 28 year old Florida State alum fought off many players near the top of the leaderboard,
With the crowd firmly behind Woods, Koepka birdied on three consecutive holds to close his front nine, then earned another pair of birdies on holes 15 and 16.
“To birdie 7-8-9 was kind of a big momentum shift for me I felt like, especially with Tiger making that run at that same time,” Koepka said after the win.
In addition to Woods, Adam Scott, Rickie Fowler, Justin Thomas and Thomas Pieters were all in contention down the stretch, but Koepka would not be denied, winning the PGA Championship by two strokes (-16) over second place Woods.
Tiger's 80th career Major appearance didn't end with the Wanamaker Trophy, but it did remind the sports world how close he is to capturing a 15th Major Championship.
