Class 5A is the land of the heavyweights. Tons of talent comes out of the 5A ranks every year, and two players from Acadiana earned a spot on the All-State team.

The Wreckin' Rams put two players on the Class 5A All-State team, and five players total made it from District 3-5A. Acadiana, Barbe, Sulphur and Sam Houston were all represented on the roster, proving that steel sharpens steel.

Bralen Trahan did everything aside from fill the water bottles for Acadiana, and the Wreckin' Rams safety earned himself a spot, along with his fellow teammate, Jonathan Simon. Trahan already committed to play for the Ragin' Cajuns, where he promises to be a playmaker in the secondary, and Simon is attracting a lot of attention on the offensive line. They were a huge part of Acadiana's success in 2016, and this is just one of many honors they earned throughout the season.

J'Cobi Skinner represented Sulphur at the running back position, after collecting 2,270 yards on the ground as a senior, and he was joined by one of his offensive linemen, Brennon Broussard, who made honorable mention.

Barbe had four different players that made the list. Receiver Nate Briscoe and defensive lineman Darion Mitchell made the roster, and running back Kirkland Banks and defensive back Raymond Stevenson both earned honorable mention. The Bucs only lost one game during the regular season, and when you look at the talent they had on the roster, it becomes clear why they had so much success on the field.

Sam Houston defensive tackle Myles Simien was the final player from District 3-5A to get his name on the list, which brings the grand total to nine players from the district. Year in and year out, 3-5A produces some of the finest athletes in the state, and 2016 provided more proof of the talent in South Louisiana.
