Call it a "Yellowstone" effect but lately I have found myself wondering about ranch life! In Texas, there are plenty of ranches- there's no denying that! Even "Yellowstone" has a huge connection to Texas!

But did you know that the biggest ranch in the entire country is right here in the Lone Star state? It's called King Ranch (which just seems appropriate) and it covers 825,000 acres across the Lone Star state!

It all started in 1853 when Captain Richard King purchased a creek-fed oasis in the Wild Horse Desert of South Texas.

With over 160 years of history and legacy, it's no wonder that King Ranch is one of the most iconic ranches in the entire country.

These days, King Ranch is a major agribusiness with interests in cattle ranching, farming (citrus, cotton, grain, sugar cane, and turfgrass), luxury retail goods, and recreational hunting.

You can book a tour, which are given daily, where there's something for everyone. Those interested can view the variety of birds, wildlife, flora, and fauna of majestic South Texas first-hand. You can and view the variety of birds, wildlife, flora, and fauna of majestic South Texas first-hand.

The other largest ranches in Texas include:

  • The Brisco Family Ranch with 640,000 acres
  • O'Connor Family Ranch with 500,000 acres
  • Wilkes Bros. Ranch with 350,000 acres
  • Reynolds Family Ranch with 250,000 acres
  • Faskan Family Ranch with 225,000 acres
  • The Hughes Family Ranch with 175,000 acres

I'm not entirely sure how much land the Dutton's owe, but I can tell you that I would definitely love to see a show about King Ranch!
