Powerball Confirms $214.9 Million Win – Texas Tickets Claim $200k

The eyes of Texas, along with a majority of the country that plays lottery games, were on the Powerball drawing last night, Monday, May 6, 2024. The reason for the interest was a jackpot of nearly one-quarter of a billion dollars. A ticket matching all the numbers needed to claim that jackpot could be life-changing.  The Powerball Lottery has confirmed that such a ticket was sold for Monday's drawing.

There have been a dozen Powerball drawings held in partnership with the Texas Lottery and other lottery companies across the nation since the game last had a big jackpot win. You probably remember that a ticket sold for the April 6th, 2024 drawing claimed a top prize of $1.3 billion-plus. Last night's jackpot was for considerably less than that, but I don't think the winner will suffer any feelings of inadequacy when they claim their prize.

Here's how Monday's Powerball drawing unfolded.

The numbers that were determined by the bouncing balls were:

Use those numbers as a reference but please verify your ticket at the Official Powerball website or the Official Texas Lottery website. There are places on both websites that allow you to enter your ticket numbers and verify your prize winnings.

What we do know, courtesy of our sources at Powerball is a single ticket sold in the state of Florida matched all the numbers needed to earn the game's jackpot prize of $214.9 million.  Another ticket sold for Monday's drawing matched all five of the white balls but not the Powerball. That Match 5 Million winner was sold in Idaho. Oh, and the ticket purchaser opted for the Power Play so their total prize will be $2 million.

Powerball Winners in Texas

The Texas Lottery has confirmed via our sources there that three big-money tickets were sold in the Lone Star State for Monday's Powerball. Two of the tickets are $50,000 winners and a third earned a prize of $100,000.

Each of the tickets matched four of the five white balls along with the Powerball. However, the $100,000 winning ticket did have the Power Play option included. Elsewhere in Texas, there were 35 tickets sold that earned a prize of $200, and another 86 tickets sold that can lay claim to a prize of $100. 

The Powerball jackpot will now return to its starting amount of $20 million for Wednesday's drawing. The Mega Millions game, the other multi-state lottery game that is played in Texas will feature a top prize of $306 million. That game will hold its Tuesday drawing tonight just before 10 o'clock.
