Ragin’ Cajuns Among Six Louisiana Schools to Make 2024 NCAA Baseball Regionals
It was a good year for college baseball in Louisiana this season, illustrated by the whopping six teams from the Bayou State that have made it to the 2024 NCAA Regionals.
While Louisiana's Ragin' Cajuns (40-18) didn't fare well in the Sun Belt Conference Tournament, losing the only two games they played, the team did win the regular season conference title. And for that good work, Matt Deggs' team will be headed to the Bryan-College Station Regional to face the Texas Longhorns (35-22) in the first game.
#3 national seed Texas A&M will play Grambling in the other game. That game is scheduled for 12:00 pm on Friday, May 31 while the Texas-UL game is slated for 5:00 pm.
The LSU Tigers (40-21) caught fire as the #11 seed in the SEC Tournament and charged to the Championship Game on Sunday. Ultimately, they fell to top-seed Tennessee by a final of 4-3, but the four wins prior helped clinch the Tigers' spot in the field of 64.
If the Tigers want to defend their national championship, it will have to start on the road as Coach Jay Johnson's team will be in the Chapel Hill Regional.
LSU will play Wofford (41-18) in the first game. #4 national seed North Carolina (42-13) will take on Long Island (33-23) in the other game.
Other Louisiana schools punching their ticket to the NCAA postseason tournament include Tulane, Nicholls, and Grambling, all of which won their respective conference tournaments this weekend, along with Louisiana Tech, who won the regular season Conference USA championship.
A total of four Sun Belt Conference schools made Regionals -- UL, Southern Miss, Coastal Carolina, and James Madison.
