Ragin’ Cajun Baseball Fans – Don’t Miss Starkville’s Biggest Attraction
(KMDL-FM) Louisiana's Ragin' Cajuns baseball team left Lafayette yesterday afternoon, heading to Starkville, Mississippi, the site of the "Starkville Regional" of the NCAA Baseball Tournament. Starkville is my hometown, and I have some inside information on Starkville's biggest tourist attraction.

As someone who spent almost two decades in "Stark Vegas," I know the secret places only the locals know, and I will gladly share them with fans of Louisiana's Ragin' Cajuns. Hey, if you want to visit the site where Johnny Cash was arrested for "pickin' flowers in his underwear beside the highway," I can give you directions.
But as interesting as Cash's "Starkville City Jail" moment is, it's still not the most engaging tourist attraction in my Mississippi hometown. Side note, after typing Mississippi several times, you will wish you were born in Utah.
What's the Quirkiest and Most Popular Tourist Attraction in Starkville, MS?
No, it's not the Palmeiro Center named after a wonderful donation by MSU Alumnus Rafeal Palmeiro. And no, you can't get steroids there. Y'all just won't let that go, will you? The real "Star" in Starkville is a Bridge.
What makes a "bridge" in Starkville, Mississippi, an engaging tourist attraction? That's a fair question. But it's not what the bridge looks like; it's what happens when people encounter the bridge.
Okay, it's a railroad overpass, and it's on South Washington Street. That's one of the primary roads you might take to get to MSU's campus. The overpass is only 9 feet tall. That's about five to seven feet shorter than the current roadway standards across the country.
Now imagine you're a student or the father of a student moving to Starkville to go to school, and you're driving a U-Haul truck? I hope you paid for the insurance.
The bridge has gotten so popular among locals in Starkville that a group is now offering merchandise. You would be correct in your assumption that entertaining things in and around the Starkville area can be few and far between.

Oh, and one other note about driving in Starkville to Mississippi State, you will likely encounter "Malfunction Junction," which is the main intersection that leads you to campus. Fortunately, Dudy Noble Field, where the baseball will be played, is on the other side of campus, so you can get to the park without that headache.
But if you want to see a bunch of Mississippi Rednecks ( I can say that, I'm one of them) get a glazed look on their faces trying to figure out a five-way stop, make sure you visit the Junction.
Louisiana will face Cincinnati in the opening round of the Starkville Regional. That game is scheduled for 6 pm on Friday. The other schools in that regional are Lipscomb and the host school, Mississippi State. You can hear the Cajuns game on NewsTalk 965 KPEL and on that station's App.
