The acceptance of cannabis as "real" medicine and as a recreational drug continues to grow across the country. As more and more people, especially older Americans, are using cannabis to help with everything from chronic pain, cancer issues, and stress from life's day-to-day chaos there is a growing call to make the substance more user-friendly in more places.

One of the times that people from Louisiana who use cannabis like to use it the most is when they are on vacation. If you're not familiar with the effects of cannabis it can provide hours of relief from pain and help the user to feel more relaxed. It can also help those who have trouble sleeping to do so. And, it can put you in a very relaxed euphoric state which is where most of us would like to be when we are on vacation.

Can You Bring Cannabis on a Cruise Ship?

Unless it's a specific "weed cruise" the answer is NO. Cruise lines follow federal rules when it comes to cannabis. So, even if it's legal for medical use or recreational use where you're boarding the ship, you still can't bring it with you. That goes for recreational, medical, edible, flower, tinctures, or any other delivery method you choose.

Many of the big cruise lines are stepping up enforcement of their cannabis policy by adding more screeners and employing canines to sniff out contraband. And while you can't use cannabis on a cruise ship, you can certainly use cannabis on a cruise.

You May Use Cannabis on a Cruise, Just Not On Board the Ship

If any of your ports of call on your cruise happen to be in jurisdictions where cannabis is legal. You are free to use it under the laws of that land. That means if you visit Amsterdam and you choose to have a "space cake" you can. If you want to smoke a bowl in a coffee shop in Phuket you can. If you want to enjoy a sour gummy while walking along the canals of Venice Beach you can.  You just have to use or lose your stash before you get back on the boat.

You don't want to be so stoned you can walk up the gangway but if it's legal in the port you can imbibe. However, I would caution you that being out of control of your better judgment while in a foreign country is not a good idea. It's your life, you live it how you see fit. Just know some thieves look for travelers who have had too much to drink or smoke as easy targets.

One Big Downside to Cannabis Use on Cruises

The darn buffet, I call it the trough, that's usually located on the top deck of the ship is confusing enough. Can you imagine a bunch of stoned individuals, many of them grandparents, waddling around with their trays attempting to find the desserts and a place to sit? It would be frustrating and quite entertaining at the same time.
