If you launch your boat out of the Butte LaRose boat landing in Henderson, Louisiana, then starting this Friday you will have to find another place to do so for a bit.

The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development announced that beginning Friday, August 23, the landing near the Atchafalaya Welcome Center in St. Martin Parish will be closed until further notice due to low water levels caused by the drawdown at Henderson Lake.

While the drawdown is going on, boaters will still be able to access the lake from the private ramps along the southern levee, DOTD said.

The drawdown of Henderson Lake began on August 5 and will conclude on Friday, November 1. At that time, the lake will be allowed to refill.

The drawdown is designed to help the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries help manage aquatic vegetation and improve fisheries habitat in the basin.

The Butte LaRose boat launch will remain closed until the drawdown is complete and the water has returned to a safe level.
