Showing someone affection I think is something we naturally do when we love someone. We can also hug someone to show our congratulations to them or as a way to offer them comfort in bad times.

How we show affection to each other is something that changes with the environment. You may give a longer hug to someone in your family when you are at home. But a mother's hug on a football field has plenty of people commenting.
