Louisiana Shelters in Our Area Can Use Help During Upcoming Cold Crisis

Louisiana is in for some very extreme temperatures and wind chills in the next several days, and our local shelters will be at capacity trying to help the less fortunate in our community.

The upcoming cold crisis will mean that shelters will be in need of different types of items to help the people that will be seeking a warm place to stay.

Catholic Charities of Acadiana Spokesman Ben Broussard says that there is a way that you can help if you are so inclined.

The group is activating its freeze plan within all of its sheltering programs that offer a place for people who are experiencing homelessness.

Broussard says they are going to "surge capacity at all of its shelters" as of Monday evening, allowing even more people to stay at their shelters.

If you would like to buy the following items and donated them you can drop off these items at Emily House Shelter at 1000 East Willow Street in Lafayette. The following items will be accepted:

Sleeping Bags (Cleaned/Laundered)

Bath Towels (Cleaned/Laundered)

Twin-size blankets (new)

Coats (Sizes M-XXXL. Cleaned/Laundered)

Sweatpants (news, all adult sizes)

Toilet Paper

Clorox Wipes

Bathroom Shower Slippers
