A heads up for those of you who commute via I-10 between Lafayette and Baton Rouge.

In an official announcement, DOTD says, "Emergency roadwork will have I-10 eastbound down to one lane near Henderson, at the base of the Atchafalaya Basin Bridge, to Lake Pelba (MM 122) beginning Friday, Aug. 18, at 8 p.m. until noon on Tuesday, Aug. 22."

Plus, On Friday, Aug. 25, the closure will take place again beginning at 8 p.m. until noon on Tuesday, Aug. 29, to allow contractors to finish the repair.

Repairs on the bridge will include a broken finger joint on the bridge near the Butte La Rose exit, thus those working will need the room and safety to complete the project.

DOTD states the following:

"The lane closures will begin near the start of the bridge to make emergency response easier should the need arise. Expect heavy delays during the repair work, and motorists are advised to take I-49 north to US 190 east toward Baton Rouge as an alternate route."

Again, if you or anyone you know travels I-10 east, you need to be aware of these lane closures and plan ahead.

If there are any more announcements in regard to these closures, we will share them here and on this station's mobile app.
