A crime occurred in the city of Lafayette last night, and officials with the Lafayette Police Department are asking for the public's help in solving the case.

Three people were victims of a drive-by shooting that happened Saturday night. Police Spokeswoman Sergeant Robin Green says there was a block party in the 500 block of Hellen Street.

One person has now died due to the shooting.

At around 10:40 last night as the party was in full force, a car drove by and someone started firing shots from that vehicle.

Three people were injured in this assault, and all three were taken to an area hospital with various stages of injury.

Sergeant Green says one man who was shot, Devin McZeal died as a result of the person or persons who fired the shots then ran away.

One victim has non-life-threatening injuries. A juvenile at the party was also shot and is said to be in critical but stable condition.

When police arrived at the scene they worked on life-saving techniques for the victims until paramedics came to take the victims to the hospital.

Sergeant says they are asking for information from anyone who might have seen something at the time or if someone happens to know information about what happened with this shooting, they are asking them to come forward.
