Former Star Football Player For The LSU Tigers Has Died

A former star football player for the LSU Tigers has died at 36.

The Advocate reports that the former LSU defensive star,  Rahim Alem, died over the weekend.

Alem played for LSU from 2006 to 2009 and was considered one of the best defensive prospects coming out of the SEC in 2009. Alem was electric on the field and was always a lot of fun to watch.

The New Orleans native did make his way into the NFL as an undrafted free agent and played briefly with the Cincinnati Bengals.

LSU fans will remember the name Chad Jones, who played both football and baseball at LSU, well that was Rahim Alem's brother. The two were on the same team while at LSU.

According to the Advocate's report, "Alem, whose given name was Alfred Marvin Jones Jr., legally changed his name to Rahim Akil Alem, which is part Swahili and part Arabic, as an acknowledgment of his African heritage."

In the report, there was no cause of death announced, but we will continue to follow this developing story.
