Outfielder Nate Davis Withdraws from MLB Draft to Join the Tigers

High school outfielder Nathaneal (Nate) Davis has chosen to pull his name out of the upcoming MLB Draft, and enroll at LSU. The left-handed hitter was projected by many scouts to be selected in the 4th round of the MLB Draft. Had he remained in the draft pool, Davis would have begun his professional baseball career immediately, rather than gaining experience at the collegiate level.

Convincing a prospect to delay a professional contract is a massive win for Head Coach Jay Johnson. If he went in the draft, Davis would have snagged a contract, and signing bonus, right away.

Davis provides an immediate candidate for the centerfield position...bringing elevated speed and defensive range to a roster requiring improvement. There's a chance he could start as a true freshman with the current construction of the LSU baseball depth chart.

Roster Improves with Additions from the NCAA Transfer Portal

The commitment of high school prospects is being paired with veterans secured through the transfer portal. The staff added former Notre Dame outfielder Bino Watters and Florida infielder Cade Kurland to the lineup.
