50 Cent Keeps Threatening Shreveport With a Good Time on His Social Media
We're now over 2 years into the 50 Cent and Shreveport marriage, and sometimes it feels like we haven't even started the honeymoon.
The Genesis of a Partnership: How 50 Cent Chose Shreveport
In May of 2023, Curis "50 Cent" Jackson started cryptically posting on social media that he was on the verge of buying a filming studio. At the same time, photos of Jackson in Shreveport were being published on Shreveport area social media accounts.
Eventually we would find out that Jackson was touring locations in Shreveport, and he was very interested in bringing his filming empire to the city. This would evolve into an agreement with the City of Shreveport to lease the Millenium Studios property long term. It would be a very beneficial deal for Jackson, with the hopes that his filming projects would breathe life into Shreveport's rich filming history.
50 Cent's Vision for Shreveport: More Than Just a Studio
Less than a year later, Jackson was part of a massive event at Government Plaza in Downtown Shreveport to publicly lay out the partnership between Jackson's production company and Shreveport. Appearing alongside Jackson was Shreveport Mayor Tom Arceneaux, as well as Shreveport City Council members. The speech that Jackson gave wasn't about the finer details of his filming projects, but more about the hope and optimism he has for Shreveport.
Since then, Jackson has gone on a buying spree through the area. Purchasing millions of dollars worth of property in Shreveport, focused mainly on the Downtown Shreveport area. But Jackson was also able to come to another agreement with the City of Shreveport to lease the former StageWorks building. That further expanded the properties that will be under Jackson's control moving forward.
The StageWorks deal came together early this year, and Jackson even came to Shreveport to help push that plan over the finish line. He appeared and spoke at a Shreveport City Council meeting, and thanked them for their support.
Filming Delays: When Will Productions Begin in Shreveport?
All of this has been a slow build. Many thought that by this point there would be filming in Shreveport. One of those people was apparently Jackson himself. Numerous outlets reported that non-scripted filming would start in Shreveport during 2024, and scripted projects would start in January 2025. But those dates came and went, with no productions started.
50 Cent's Unwavering Faith in Shreveport's Creative Future
But that hasn't stopped Jackson from hyping up Shreveport. Just this week, he took to social media to put Shreveport over again. Promising that Shreveport "is gonna be the place to be art, culture ,creativity".
Once the filming begins, everyone's hope is that the rest will fall into place. Getting the ball rolling with productions will hopefully accelerate the industries that support those projects again. The structure for the industry still exists in the city, with many former industry pros still calling Shreveport home.
