Lake Charles, Louisiana (KNGT-FM) - The excitement surrounding the 2025-2026 McNeese Athletics year is through the roof, and that includes the Women's Basketball program under new Head Coach Ayla Guzzardo. McNeese announced on Friday that the Cowgirls will be heading to the beach to play a few games this year.

For the past several seasons, McNeese Women's Basketball has been an afterthought for many fans and supporters, but that won't be the case this year. The former Southeastern Coach and defending Coach of the Year, Ayla Guzzardo, was hired in March to lead the Women's Basketball program at McNeese, and Athletics Director Heath Schroyer thinks he has found the right person to get the program winning again.

Friday Morning, McNeese announced that Guzzardo and her Cowgirls will be heading to the beach to play some ball. The Cowgirls have accepted an invitation to play in the 2025 Baha Mar Hoops Pink Flamingo Championship, which will happen on November 24 and 26 at the Baha Mar Convention, Arts & Entertainment Center in Nassau, The Bahamas.

There will be 8 teams in the tournament. The teams are split into two groups of four. McNeese is in the Goombay Division, along with Belmont, Ohio State, and West Virginia. The other group, called the Junkanoo Division, includes Alabama, Harvard, Minnesota, and South Florida.

McNeese will play their first game against West Virginia at 1:30 p.m. ET on Monday, November 24.

If fans want to take the trip to the Bahamas in November, the event will be held at a beautiful resort featuring luxury hotels, numerous restaurants, a large casino, a water park, a golf course, a spa, and more.
