The St. Louis Rams today announced that they fired defensive coordinator Gregg Williams, as well as his son Blake Williams, who served as linebackers coach. Interesting that Gregg Williams was fired for a job he was refrained from doing.

Shortly after being hired by the Rams last off season, Williams (the elder) was suspended indefinitely by the league for his role in "bountygate." The former New Orleans Saints defensive coordinator never actually got a chance to coach the Rams defense, but he was fired.

For the first time in his coaching career, 28-year old Blake Williams was on a staff without his Father. According to a report from Jim Thomas in the St. Louis Dispatch, Blake's ego rubbed many the wrong way, causing friction between he and other on the Rams defensive coaching staff, ultimately leading to his dismissal.
