Americans Collapse; lose Ryder Cup to Europe

With a 10-4 lead Saturday afternoon, it appeared the American Ryder Cup team was poised to not only win the Cup, but perhaps do it in dominating fashion.

Instead, 2012 will be remembered as the year America choked.

After closing to within 10-6 at the close of play Saturday, Europe stunned the U. S. by winning 8 1/2 of the possible 12 points to retain the Ryder Cup 14 1/2 to 13 1/2.

Martin Kaymer delivered the final blow, a 1-up victory over Steve Stricker and Tiger Woods missed a putt from inside of four feet to halve his match with Francisco Molinari, completing the American collapse.
