All-Time NFL Players From Acadiana: Herman Arvie

A number of people have represented the Acadiana area in the National Football League.

All summer long, we’re going to spotlight the fantastic athletes from the area, people that were actually born in one of the Acadiana parishes, that went on to play football at the highest level, the NFL.

Yesterday, we profiled former Plaisance High School great Karl Dunbar.

Today, we spotlight former Opelousas High School standout Herman Arvie.

Born on October 12, 1970 in Opelousas, Arvie attended Opelousas High School.

Following his high school years, Arvie went on to college at Grambling St., where he earned All-SWAC offensive lineman honors.

The 6-foot-4, 312-pound Arvie was selected by the Cleveland Browns in the 5th round of the 1993 NFL Draft.

Arvie made his NFL debut with the Browns in 1993, at the age of 23, playing in all 16 games, mostly on special teams, and as a reserve offensive tackle.

The 1994 and 1995 seasons saw Arvie play in all 16 games, including three combined starts, all at tackle.

When the Browns moved to Baltimore and became the Ravens in 1996, Arvie went along, playing in 14 games, including one start.

Also during that 1996 season, Arvie caught a pass, which just happened to be for a touchdown.

In four NFL seasons, Arvie appeared in 64 games, including four as a starter.

Today, Arvie is 46-years old.
