Victim Identified in Fatal Motorcycle Crash in Lafayette

The Lafayette Police Department has identified the motorcyclist who died in a major vehicle crash at the intersection of Surrey and Twelfth Street as Isreal Riggs, 27, of Lafayette. The fatal accident occurred around 10:12 a.m. on Sunday morning (Sep. 1).

According to the latest investigation by the Lafayette Police Traffic Unit, Riggs, the driver of the motorcycle, failed to stop at a red traffic signal while traveling northbound on Twelfth Street. Riggs collided with another vehicle as he crossed the intersection at Surrey Street. He sustained fatal injuries as a result of the crash.

Lafayette Police remind citizens of importance of obeying traffic signals and exercising caution, especially at busy intersections.
