
UPDATE: Sandbags Available Ahead of Potential Flood Event
OPELOUSAS, La. (KPEL News) - While we are no strangers to the rain here in South Louisiana, there is still a limit to what the ground can handle. With the weather forecast calling for a good bit of rain over the next few days, the time to prepare for possible flooding is now.
According to our friend KATC Meteorologist Daniel Phillips, "Expect area-wide rain totals through Thursday to be in the 2-4" range with isolated spots receiving 6" or more leading to some localized flooding."

SANDBAG LOCATIONS
With the risk of flooding comes the demand for sandbags. As of Wednesday, July 24, Iberia Parish, St. Landry Parish and Lafayette City and Parish have sandbags available at the following locations:
Lafayette City and Parish
- North District site at 400 Dugas Road (off of North University)
- Picard Park at 130 Park Lane
At these sites, you will be limited to four sandbags for each door of your home not to exceed 20 bags.
Iberia Parish
Sand and sand bags are available at the following locations:
- B.O.M Fire Station
- Grand Marais Fire Station
- Coteau Fire Station
- Delcambre water tower
- Loreauville City Park
- Lydia Fire Station
- Jeanerette at Fire Department
- Rynella Fire Department
Shovels will not be provided and residents should be prepared to fill their own sandbags.

St. Landry Parish
The St. Landry Parish Government will begin issuing sandbags Wednesday, July 24th from 8:00 am to 4:30 pm at the Yambilee Building (1939 West Landry Street, Opelousas).
