Texas Waffle House Locations Introduce Egg Surcharge as Prices Surge
Texans heading to Waffle House for breakfast will notice a small but significant change on their bills. The popular diner chain has announced a new $0.50 surcharge per egg, blaming an unprecedented rise in egg costs across the country.
Instead of raising menu prices entirely, Waffle House says the targeted surcharge is a temporary measure to address the rapidly increasing cost of eggs while keeping other menu prices stable.
"While we hope these price fluctuations will be short-lived, we cannot predict how long this shortage will last," the company stated. "We are continuously monitoring egg prices and will adjust or remove the surcharge as market conditions allow."
Egg prices have been skyrocketing, leaving Texas shoppers frustrated at grocery stores where shelves are often empty and prices for a dozen eggs exceed $7 in some areas. Now, even breakfast at a restaurant known for its affordability comes with added costs.
Customers have expressed mixed feelings about the surcharge. Some are willing to pay extra to enjoy their favorite Waffle House meals, while others worry about the impact on their wallets.
"Waffle House was one of the last places where you could get a good, affordable meal," said one self-proclaimed Waffle House fan on social media. "This just makes eating out that much harder."
For now, the egg surcharge remains in effect, with Waffle House keeping an eye on market trends to determine when it can be lifted.
