As a pet owner myself, I can't even imagine how heartbreaking it must be to have one of your fur babies go missing, especially during a major hurricane.

After Hurricane Laura in 2020, Debbie LaFleur tells WLOX that her family's beloved Yorkie Terrier, Kingston, went missing.

“I never thought I’d see him again.”

Small, But Mighty

Kingston might be a small guy, but he somehow ended up 300 miles away from Lake Charles, Louisiana, in Mississippi.

It's unclear if someone rescued him after Hurricane Laura and brought him to Mississippi or if he somehow managed to travel 300 miles on his own four paws.

If we learned anything from the Adventures of Scrim, the small rescue dog that went missing multiple times in New Orleans, it's that small terriers should not be underestimated.

Mississippi Fraternity Brothers Rescue Kingston

On Friday, April 4th, Kingston showed up at the Kappa Sigma Fraternity House's back porch.

President Neal Rachal says he "walked outside, and there’s just this Yorkie sitting there in a red T-shirt."

Without hesitation, the fraternity took him in and made sure he was safe until they could bring him to get checked for a microchip.

"The next day, our vice president went and got his chip checked, and that’s when we found out that his name was actually Kingston, not Benji, and that he had been missing for five years.”

LaFleur received an email notifying her that Kingston had been found. "My heart just started pounding, and I told my boss, ‘I found Kingston, I found Kingston,’ and we both just started yelling and screaming."

A four-hour drive later to Hattiesburg, Mississippi, and LaFleur and her son were finally reunited with their beloved pet.

In a video shared by WLOX, Kingston immediately recognizes his family and sprints into LaFleur's arms. "As soon as she got out of the car and he saw her, we’ve never seen Benji run like that. And he sprinted with his ears perked up. It was just awesome to see."

Debbie LaFleur explains that the only thing that could have made this reunion sweeter was if her husband Joe had been alive to see it, "They were best friends, I mean they were like two peas in a pod."

While she was sad he couldn't physically be there, she felt he played a part in their reunion, saying, "He probably made this happen."

Now Kingston will forever be an honorary member of Kappa Sig.
