After a scary night in St. Martinville, Erath High School students returned home safe but shaken. Gunfire broke out just before the homecoming football game, turning what was supposed to be a night of fun into a chaotic and frightening experience. Players, students, and families scrambled for safety as shots rang out, and sadly, one person lost their life.

Once they made it back to Erath, the students and their families gathered together in a prayer circle. Jessica Mouton shared a powerful photo of the students huddled together, praying, with the message, “This sums up Erath… came back, and students wanted to do a prayer circle. Please send prayers for our kids and everyone involved.”

The image has touched many who were not there but just as shocked to see the news reports of what unfolded. Parents, players, and students felt fear and sadness, and coming together to pray seemed to be a way to find peace and comfort after the night’s events.

As details continue to unfold following the shooting, the Erath community is standing strong together and setting the example of unity and support.

The St. Martinville-Erath game has been canceled qnd will not be made up.
