A New Fried Chicken Restaurant + Two Closures Shake Up Lafayette
LAFAYETTE, La. (KMDL-FM) - In this week's edition of "As the Lafayette Business World Turns," we provide the latest news about openings and closings.
In the last few days, we've learned of a couple of businesses closing, but another opening this week.
New Fried Chicken Spot Opening on Johnston Street
Let's start with the good news. A new fried chicken joint will open its first Acadiana location this week.
Southern Classic Chicken, located at 4603 Johnston Street in Lafayette (across from Courtesy GMC Buick), will be opening on Thursday, June 5, 2025.
This new location will bring the franchise's fried chicken and Southern-style sides to the Hub City.
A Longtime Louisiana Brand Expands
Southern Classic Chicken has been around since 1976, mostly in Louisiana, but some sprinkled in Texas and Arkansas. The Lafayette store will be the 18th location with another one in Baton Rouge opening soon.
On the flip side of things, we know of two Lafayette businesses that are either closing soon or have already closed.
Drop Dead Deals to Close by End of June
Drop Dead Deals, located at 5702 Johnston Street Suite 101, took to social media to announce the store will be closing at the end of the month.
Spirit Halloween to Take Over Johnston Street Location
As you can see in the above announcement, the last day of operation will be June 26, 2025. The space will then transition to Spirit Halloween.
The owners cited tariffs as one of the many factors in closing down.

And finally, we've learned that another Lafayette business has already closed down.
Tire Choice Auto Service Center Closes West Congress Location
Tire Choice Auto Service Center, located at 4605 W Congress St (by Adrien's Supermarket), has permanently closed.
Someone snapped a photo of the sign on the door with the closure notice and posted it on the Facebook group Closed In Acadiana.
The company still has two other Lafayette locations in operation. Those stores are open at 4460 Johnston Street and 2014 NE Evangeline Thruway.
