How ‘Cool’ Will it Be In Louisiana This Weekend?
As of early Thursday morning, according to radar scans from the National Weather Service's network of Doppler Radar sites Interstate 10 which passes through the cities of New Orleans, Baton Rouge, Lafayette, and Lake Charles was "the meat" in a "soggy sandwich". Take a look at the radar image below, it was captured at 2 this morning.
You can see the current national and statewide radar scans, right here.
The faint red line between all the green is Interstate 10 and the current thinking among forecasters at the National Weather Service is that the "blank space" will be filled with showers and storms as the day wears on. That's why the majority of southern Louisiana is under a Flood Watch through Friday.
But after Friday things improve tremendously across Louisiana and many of you will be forced into "full fall frolic mode" with some of the forecast temperatures the current prognostication has to offer.
When Will Cooler Weather Arrive in Louisiana?
During the day on Friday, a cold front is expected to push through Louisiana. You will notice the front's passing with a few more showers or possibly a thunderstorm and some gusty northerly winds. Behind that front is the most spectacular weekend of weather we have seen across Louisiana in most of a year.
The wonderful weekend will advance across Louisiana from north to south. Folks in Shreveport/Bossier City will see sunshine on Friday. Temperatures will still top out in the upper 80s but the cool down will come on Saturday morning. The overnight low will drop to near 70 and then on Sunday morning you can expect temperatures in the lower 60s.
Afternoon highs in North Louisiana on Saturday and Sunday will be in the middle 80s. Couple that with lower humidities and the weekend will be quite pleasant for those who wish to get outdoors.
South Louisiana to Experience Fall-like Weather This Weekend
It will take the front a little longer to clear South Louisiana. That part of the state will still have a significant rain threat during the day on Friday. Conditions should improve by the time high school football games kick off on Friday night. And the outlook for Saturday's college football games along the I-10 corridor looks to be quite nice indeed.
Fans attending the LSU vs Nicholls State game in Baton Rouge will want to bring a light jacket as temperatures should fall into the 60s during Saturday night's contests. Fans tailgating ahead of the New Orleans Saints season opener in New Orleans might want to wear a shirt or jacket with sleeves they can roll up. The morning will be cool but the afternoon will warm up nicely.
Afternoon highs in Baton Rouge, New Orleans, and Lafayette will be in the middle 80s on Saturday and Sunday with abundant sunshine. The overnight lows will fall into the lower 60s by Saturday and Sunday morning too.
Another bit of good news for those in Louisiana who are tired of heat, heat indices, and having to reapply deodorant several times a day is the fact that forecasters aren't predicting high temperatures won't be back in the 90s for the next 14 days. Can official Gumbo Weather be too far behind?
