There soon might be a man in Mansura, Louisiana who takes the walk down his driveway to check his mail and sees a check from the Internal Internal Revenue Service. But is it legit?

The quick answer is, yes. No matter where you get your mail: Lafayette, Leesville, Morgan City, Alexandria, or even Logansport. You could be getting a $1,4000 check from the IRS in the coming weeks.

Why would I be getting a check from the IRS?

You probably recall back in 2020 that millions of Americans received stimulus checks as part of the $390 billion package passed by Congress.

In April 2020, eligible adults were sent $1,200 stimulus checks followed by another $600 in December 2020.

Well, it turns out that about $2.4 billion of that money is leftover so the IRS is sending out $1,400 checks.

About one million people across America will be receiving these checks.

How do I know I will be receiving the $1,400 stimulus check in January?

For those getting a check, they will receive a letter from the IRS notifying them about the impending payment.

Do be aware that these special payments are being sent to people who missed one of the original stimulus checks or didn't get the full amount and didn't claim a Recovery Rebate Credit on their 2021 tax returns.

The good thing about this is those who will be getting the check don't have to do anything to receive it. It will be directly deposited to the bank account listed on their 2023 tax return or it will just be sent as a check in the mail.

You could still be eligible for the $1,400 payment.

If you didn't file a 2021 tax return, you could still be eligible to receive this latest payment. You'll need to file a tax return by April 15 and claim the Recovery Rebate Credit, even if your income was minimal or non-existent.

Payments will be $1,4000 or less, depending on what is owed. And for those getting a check, they will also receive a letter from the IRS notifying them about the impending payment.

You can read more about the upcoming special payments from the IRS on their website.
