LSU Coach Brian Kelly Addresses Death of Kyren Lacy
(Baton Rouge, Louisiana) - LSU Head Football Coach Brian Kelly spoke to the media during LSU Spring practice, and he addressed the death of one of his former players, Kyren Lacy.
Lacy died as a result of a self-inflicted gunshot wound last weekend while in Houston, Texas, and now Coach Kelly is remembering the Thiboaux native as a "Bright Star."
Coach Kelly said that players would talk to the media later in the week, as they still need time to process what happened to their former teammate. Some players have taken Lacy's death very hard, and LSU has provided professional counselors for those in need.
Lacy was just 24 years old when he died, and he was hoping to have a shot at being drafted by an NFL team next week.
The LSU coach did address mental health while standing before the media, and Kelly expressed the importance of recognizing when someone may need help.
Kyren Lacy's former coach would add this about him:
“He had an incredible personality. I’ll remember him as somebody that had a love for the game, a love for being a Tiger, and was a guy that played with great emotion. When you think of Kyren, you’re gonna smile most of the time because of the way he handled himself. He was a guy full of energy, and I think a lot of his teammates will remember him that way, as well.”
Here's Coach Kelly talking about the young man he coached last year at LSU.
LSU Quarterback Garrett Nussmeier recently took to social media to honor his late friend and former teammate. Here's what the LSU QB had to say about the guy he threw the ball to at LSU.
