Josh Abbott Returns to Lubbock for a Sweet Homecoming at Dairy Queen
A Red Raider Returns Home
Country star Josh Abbott made his way back to the Hub City Friday night, turning a regular day at Dairy Queen into a full-blown West Texas party. On November 7th, 2025, just hours before Texas Tech’s huge showdown with BYU, Abbott—proud Red Raider and front man of the Josh Abbott Band—met with fans at the DQ on University Avenue for an unforgettable hometown event.

The first 100 fans in line scored a meet-and-greet with Abbott, snapped photos with Raider Red, the Tech Pom Squad, and even Curly the DQ mascot. Guests also enjoyed free Dilly Bars, took home Josh Abbott Band koozies, and entered raffles for autographed merch.
Abbott was all smiles, taking time to chat with fans and reflect on how his Lubbock roots helped shape his success.
“My time in Lubbock and at Texas Tech truly shaped what would become my career,” Abbott said. “Being back was nostalgic, and meeting fans was good for the soul. Wreck ‘em!”
A Sweet Partnership with Texas Pride
The event was hosted by the Texas Dairy Queen Operators’ Council (TDQOC)—the same group that teamed up with Abbott back in 2022 to refresh the iconic jingle, “That’s What I Like About Texas.” The partnership has been a hit across the Lone Star State, with Abbott appearing in commercials, at hospitals, and on social media as part of DQ’s “Treats & Eats” campaign.

Lou Romanus, CEO of TDQOC, said bringing Abbott home was a perfect way to kick off a massive game weekend:
“Welcoming Josh Abbott back to his West Texas roots made this a one-of-a-kind experience for Texas Tech and DQ fans on an exciting weekend of college football.”
The Perfect Game Day Warm-Up
With ESPN College GameDay returning to Lubbock and Tech preparing for a must-win game against BYU, Abbott’s homecoming was the ideal pre-game rally for Red Raider Nation. Fans left with smiles, free ice cream, and a reminder of why community pride runs deep in the 806.
