LSU’s Will Campbell Drops Insane 40-Yard Dash Time at NFL Combine
Stop me if you've heard this before; an LSU player has stolen the show at the NFL Draft Combine.
But this time, instead of being a wide receiver or defensive back, its an offensive lineman. As Monroe native Will Campbell threw down one of the most impressive performances we've seen from a lineman at the Combine. Which has sparked a lot of interest, and a lot of online fighting.
First, lets see what Campbell did that got the buzz going. In the 40-yard-dash, Campbell stumbled on his first run, and was still able to check in with a 5 second time. Pretty good for a 319 pound lineman, and a time other lineman were struggling to hit...even without stumbling.
Then came Campbell's second run, which didn't include the stumble, and that meant a better time...
A sub-5 second 40-yard-dash time for a 6'6 319 pound offensive lineman who already has a trophy case full of awards? Come on now. There's no wonder the internet caught fire after this run.
But then the naysayers came out. Because one measurable at the NFL Draft Combine that has convinced online "draft experts" that Campbell won't be able to play at the NFL level. Yup, a Consensus All-American and 3-time All-SEC offensive lineman won't be able to play at the NFL level according to online "experts".
Why? His arm length.
Campbell reportedly measured in with 32 5/8 inch arms, and a wingspan of 77 3/8 inches. The online "draft experts" have decided that those arms are too short to play in the NFL.
Even with the online voices saying that Campbell is too big of a risk because of his arms, there are major publications who feel that the NFL decision makers have a different opinion. Most of the post-NFL Combine mock drafts available online still show Campbell as a Top 10 pick in next month's NFL Draft.
