The LSU-Shreveport Pilots have taken the baseball world by STORM this season. They broke a 25 year old record for the longest win streak in college baseball history at any level. Shreveport's Mayor proclaimed a day in their honor. They got a shoutout from LSU Legend 'Big' Ben McDonald on the SEC Network.

I say all that to say this - if you haven't been paying attention to the hometown Pilots, you've been missing out on some magic. Seasons like this don't happen very often - really, they don't ever happen! LSU-S has been on quite the run and now they're one win away from making the NAIA World Series.

LSU-Shreveport Wins Their 53rd Straight Game

Tuesday afternoon, LSUS took on Johnson University in the NAIA Regional at Pilots Field. And, like they've done all season, they handled business. No need to drag this out for dramatic effect. LSUS did what they did all year - they dominated.

The Pilots hung 10 runs in the first 3 innings on their way to picking up a 15-4 victory and to move 1 win away from making the NAIA World Series. RRAC Player of the Year Josh Gibson had 3 hits. The Pilots overall had 13 hits and 9 walks.

They picked up their 53rd win - extending their record for the best start in the history of college baseball.

Can LSUS Win the Big One?

The Pilots will play today (Wednesday May 14th) at 4:30 PM. Their opponent has yet to be determined - they'll face the winner of Johnson and Mid-America Christian. But, if they win this game, they'll win their way into NAIA World Series - which is a double elimination tournament for the NAIA National Championship.

The Pilots have made NAIA World Series 6 times previously. Could this be the year they finally win it all? If they keep playing they way they have been...I'd say they have a darn good chance.

Regardless, it's been a magical season for the Pilots and one, no matter how good they are in the future, this is the type of season we may never see again.
