Circle Your Calendars: Shreveport’s Independence Bowl Date is Locked In
It might be summer, but we're getting ready Shreveport's college football bowl game, the Radiance Technologies Independence Bowl. At least we're putting it on our calendars. The Independence Bowl announced the date for the 2025 game today, and it has us pretty excited.
The 2025 Radiance Technologies Independence Bowl will be held on Tuesday, December 30th at 1pm Central. The game will be carried nation-wide on ESPN, and the radio call will be heard on 1130 The Tiger, KWKH.
A Historic December Date for Shreveport's Bowl
According to a release from the Independence Bowl, this will be the latest in a calendar year the game has been played since 2013. Back in 2013, the Arizona Wildcats beat Boston College 42-19 on New Years Eve (December 31st). This will be the third time in Bowl history the game has taken place on December 30th.
Independence Bowl Conference Tie-In: Big 12 vs. Conference USA
This year's Radiance Technologies Independence Bowl is set to feature a matchup between the Big 12 Conference and Conference USA. Which could create a very strong matchup for Shreveport.
The Big 12 hosts programs like Texas Tech, TCU, Houston, Baylor, and Oklahoma State, which could all be good regional draws. But they also have Colorado, West Virginia, and UCF, who all have incredibly entertaining coaches, which can help draw eyes to the game, and Shreveport.
Conference USA also features schools with good regional draws, especially Louisiana Tech. But beyond Tech, they have Sam Houston, UTEP, and Missouri State University that could all be strong draws. The conference had three schools that received Top 25 votes during the 2024 season too, so there are some strong programs that could make an interesting TV matchup for the ESPN audience.
No matter who is playing in the game, the idea of a daytime kickoff, after Christmas, sounds like a good idea to us.
