Dasher Diary: Mistake on a Delivery Order? See How One Amarillo Driver Handled It
Sometimes, when you’re out making deliveries in Amarillo, mistakes happen. It is how you handle those mistakes that matters. Sometimes you're simply not in a position to help. DoorDash has procedures.
If there is something you can do and it doesn't mess up your ability to continue delivering, you should do what you can to help. Recently, a mistake was made on one of my deliveries.
When Delivery Errors Happen, What to Do
A customer placed an order at Chipotle. I went and picked it up and delivered it to her house. The bag was sealed, so I couldn't see what was in it. As I drove off, I got a message from the customer that her chips were missing in the bag.
My Chipotle Order Mistake: What Went Wrong
I felt bad because she tipped really well. If it was food missing, you are supposed to direct them to contact DoorDash. They will either credit the account or have another delivery driver drop off the food. It's difficult to go back to the store and tell them something was missing without any real proof.
Going Back, How I Fixed It
So when she messaged me, I had to either tell her to contact DoorDash or try to make it right. I did initially tell her to contact them, but then I messaged her and told her I was going to try to get Chipotle to give me the chips. I figured that was easier to ask for than a missing burrito.

So I went in and was hoping the same guy who handed me the bag of food was there, but of course, he wasn't. So I asked the lady at the counter about the missing chips. I asked her if she could give me the chips that were missing. She did.
Outcome and Why It Matters
I let the customer know I was heading back with her chips. She was thrilled. I really was too because I wanted to help her, and I am assuming she had queso or guacamole in the bag that wouldn't be very helpful without the chips to eat.
When I got back to her house and handed her the chips, she handed me another $5. I tried to refuse. It wasn't her fault that they forgot the chips. She wouldn't let me leave without the extra money. I was really appreciative because that delivery ended up making me $17 total, and it wasn't a far drive.
Sometimes things just work out. She was happy that I went the extra mile to help her, and in the end, I was thankful that it was something that I could correct.
