Major Bank Closing Multiple Branches in Texas – See Full List
A popular national bank is shutting down several locations across Texas. We've got everything you need to know and what you should do if you have this popular bank...
Having a bank that is easy to access and trustworthy is essential in today’s fast-changing financial world. Customers need the confidence that their money is secure and that they can reach their bank when they need to—whether in person or online. With many banks closing branches, finding one that values accessibility and trust is more important than ever.
Wells Fargo, the fourth-largest bank in the United States, has announced that over a dozen branches will close as part of its ongoing downsizing efforts, per a report from The Street.
The COVID-19 pandemic changed the way people handle their banking. With more customers switching to online banking, in-person visits to branches declined. As a result, many banks, including Wells Fargo, have been closing locations, especially in areas with fewer customers.
Wells Fargo, which manages about $1.7 trillion in assets and operates over 4,000 branches in 36 states, has dealt with significant controversy in recent years. In 2020, the bank agreed to pay a $3 billion fine due to a scandal where employees were pressured to open fake accounts in customers' names between 2002 and 2016. This led to a major loss of trust, with big investors like Warren Buffett selling their shares in the company.
Despite past issues, Wells Fargo remains profitable. In 2024, the bank reported a net income of $18.6 billion, or $5.43 per share. However, to cut costs, the company has been closing branches across the country. Last year, 92 locations shut down, and more closures are expected in 2025.
According to documents filed with the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency (OCC), the following Wells Fargo branches in Texas will be closing:
- 321 University Drive, College Station, Texas
- 1930 North Loop 1604 E, San Antonio, Texas
- 2611 Cedar Springs Road, Dallas, Texas
- 25100 F.M. 2100, Huffman, Texas
Customers who use these locations may need to switch to online banking or visit another branch nearby. Wells Fargo has not announced if more closures will follow, but with the bank’s focus on digital banking and cost-cutting, additional shutdowns could be on the horizon.
