This road trip for McNeese State appeared to be the most difficult stretch of basketball that the Cowboys would see, but it did not appear that way in Game 1 of this 3-game road stretch as Wade and his bunch dismantled Texas Rio Grande Valley 93-63.

Now they will gear up for a matchup of #1 versus #2.

McNeese has now won 20-straight Southland Conference games and is amidst a 10-game winning streak, which is tied for 6th-best in the country, but all of that will be put to the test on Monday Night.

“We’ve got to be precise with the scout and make sure we’re doing everything we need to give ourselves the best chance to win,” Wade said. “I like where our guys are at, and I’m confident we’ll rise to the challenge.”

Here is a look at the latest standings in the Southland Conference:

Before last season, the Islanders had complete control over McNeese, winning 16 straight matchups. However, the Cowboys turned the tide last year, sweeping both games in dramatic fashion. In Texas, McNeese narrowly escaped with a 62-61 victory, thanks to Shumate's clutch score off a missed rebound with just 0.5 seconds left.

The Islanders are coming off of a nice 61-57 win over Nicholls on Saturday and have been pretty impressive at home this season as they have posted an 11-1 home record this season, including a perfect 4-0 at the American Bank Center. That will certainly be put to the test on Monday.

For McNeese, a win on Monday Night would go a long way. At this rate. the #1 seed in the Southland Conference Tournament might be solidified by mid-February, which is pretty much unheard of.

“Certainly, our goal is to get the one or two seed, preferably the one, to lock in the double bye,” Wade said. “But for now, we’re just trying to go 1-0 every game day.”

The game is slated to tip off at 7:00 and you can watch all of the action on ESPN+ or over the air on Power 92.1 with Bruce Merchant on the call.
