McNeese Puts Nation’s Longest Win Streak on the Line Against LSU
Lake Charles, Louisiana (KNGT-FM) - Tuesday Night, the McNeese Cowboys will put their school-record 12-game winning streak to the test when they face eighth-ranked LSU in Baton Rouge.
McNeese (27-5) is off to the best start in school history. The Cowboys are now ranked No. 10 in the latest 11Point7 Mid-Major poll and are tied for first in the Southland Conference.
This past weekend, McNeese swept Incarnate Word on the road. Sunday’s game was their most impressive yet. After falling behind 7-1, the Cowboys exploded for 13 straight runs to win 14-7, marking their biggest comeback of the season. That win also set the program record for most consecutive victories.
LSU (31-6) might have the higher national ranking, but they’re not exactly riding high. The Tigers just got swept by Auburn over the weekend and will be looking to take out some frustration Tuesday night. The Tigers struggled to score against Auburn, managing only eight runs in three games. They’ll be glad to be back home, where they are 22-1 this season.
This isn’t just another midweek game. For McNeese, it could be a resume-building win that helps their chances of making the NCAA Tournament, even if they don’t win the Southland Conference tournament.
A victory over a top-10 team like LSU would make a loud statement for the Cowboys across the college baseball world. After facing LSU, McNeese will return home for a weekend series against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi.
