(KNGT-FM) - Louisiana Governor Jeff Landry has certainly been on a mission over the last few days. Over the weekend, Landry played a part in the firing of LSU Head Coach Brian Kelly; now he wants a new statue on campus.

Now, he has set his sights on another challenge, a Charlie Kirk statue on the campus of LSU.

Charlie Kirk was tragically shot and killed on September 27th while speaking at a campus event in Utah. Charlie Kirk was an American political activist who started a group called Turning Point USA when he was very young. His goal was to encourage high school and college students to get involved in conservative politics. He often spoke at campuses, on social media, and on podcasts, discussing topics like free speech and his political beliefs.

The aftermath of the Kirk assassination was unlike any other. While some slandered the name, others fled to Churches all across the country.

Louisiana Governor Jeff Landry Requests LSU To Build Charlie Kirk Statue

Monday Night, Louisiana Governor Jeff Landry attended a Turning Point USA event on the campus of LSU and, in the aftermath of the event, sent out a challenge to Louisiana State University and the LSU Board of Supervisors.

Landry is asking Louisiana State University to build a statue of Charlie Kirk on campus. Landry says the statue would honor Kirk’s fight for free speech and inspire students to stand up for what they believe in.

The governor said, “We’re going to challenge LSU to put up a statue of Charlie Kirk to defend free speech on college campuses.” In a video he posted on X, Landry said, “Let’s see if we can be the first campus to do it.”

Not everyone agrees with the idea of the statue, though. Some people said Kirk doesn’t have a strong connection to LSU or Louisiana. Others think the state should focus on other issues instead of building a statue.

I guess some would say that for Governor Landry and the LSU Football team as well, but that didn't stop him either. After LSU's embarrassing loss to Texas A&M over the weekend, the Governor stepped in and played a part in the firing of LSU Head Coach Brian Kelly.

Landry is in a major spot with Louisiana State University, still on the hunt for its next University President.
