CPSO to Conduct Seatbelt Checkpoint This Weekend
Lake Charles, LA (KNGT-FM) - The Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office (CPSO) will be setting up a seatbelt checkpoint on Saturday, April 26. The checkpoint will be held at a secret location somewhere in the parish.

This checkpoint's main goal is to ensure everyone in the vehicle is wearing a seatbelt. According to Louisiana law, all passengers—both in the front and back seats—must wear a seatbelt at all times. Not wearing a seatbelt can lead to a fine or other consequences.
The Louisiana Highway Safety Commission is funding this effort as part of a statewide push to make roads safer and save lives. Law enforcement officers will be stopping cars and checking to see if everyone is properly buckled up.
While officers may make arrests if they find something illegal, it’s important to remember that an arrest does not mean someone is guilty. Everyone is considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
The CPSO encourages everyone to wear their seatbelts every time they ride in a vehicle. It’s a simple way to stay safe and help prevent serious injuries or deaths in a crash.
